The Free NHS health check is designed to help you prevent heart disease, stroke, diabetes and kidney disease.
The Check is part of a national scheme aimed at patients aged between 40 and 74 who do not suffer from one or more of the problems mentioned.
The Check will only take 10-20 minutes; it will start with you being asked some questions. They may, for example, be about your family history or the medication you are currently taking.
We will record your height, weight, age, sex, ethnicity, take your blood pressure and do a simple blood test to check your cholesterol level.
After the Check we will discuss how we can support you to reduce your risk and stay healthy, you will be given personalised advice on how to lower you risk and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Some people with raised blood pressure will have thier kidneys checked through a blood test.
Treatment or medication may be prescribed to help you maintain your health.
Even if you’re feeling well, its worth having your NHS Health Check now, we can then work with you to lower your chances of developing these health problems in the future.
